Often known as the “city of trees,” Atlanta and its suburbs are known for tree-lined streets and numerous parks, creating the perfect backdrop for misfit strays to go on an adventure to search for Reggie's former owner.

In 1964, a name change to Cinema Entertainment Corp. (CEC Theatres) marked a new focus on building freestanding indoor theatres. Through the years, this privately-held family-owned company followed an expansion plan focused on small to medium size communities located in the Upper Midwest.

In the production notes, Martello-White explained he came up with the idea for the film from a real story he'd heard about a biracial woman who'd had two sets of children, one Black and one white-passing. Like the twist of The Strays, she had refused to acknowledge her first pair of kids.

The Strays showed us how people sometimes don't learn from their mistakes and aren't as innocent as they appear to be. The moment that Neve's new perfect life became not so perfect, she abandoned everyone in her life and chose herself once more.

Production. The film was produced by Valentina Brazzini, Tristan Goligher and Rob Watson. Emilie Levienaise-Farrouch composed the score. Principal photography took place between September and November 2021, in London, Suffolk and Berkshire.

The shocking ending of The Strays exposes Neve's deceit and abandonment of her estranged children, painting her as the villain and showing the cyclical nature of trauma. Neve's departure at the end signifies the collapse of her idealized life and the beginning of a new cycle of trauma for her children.
