Honor Flight of the Ozarks Radiothon raises $25,216.50
Honor Flight of the Ozarks and Zimmer Midwest Communications raised $25,216.50 during the partnership's third annual Radiothon on Aug. 23.
The daylong fundraiser, which involved radio stations 98.7 The Dove, 101.3 Real Country, 93.3 and AM 560 KWTO, and 96.9 ESPN The Jock, provides funding for Honor Flight, which provides free trips to Washington, D.C. memorials for veterans in southwest Missouri and northwest Arkansas.
The final Honor Flight trip of 2024 is scheduled Oct. 16. Veterans fly free while guardians who accompany them take the trip for $500. For more information and to apply, go online to honorflightoftheozarks.org.
Carver joins Wampler & Passanise as of-counsel attorney
Thomas Carver has joined Wampler & Passanise as of-counsel attorney, bringing more than 50 years of criminal defense expertise to the firm and working directly with managing partner Joseph S. Passanise.
During his half-century in practice, Carver has represented more than 300 clients in federal cases and thousands in Missouri state courts. His experience includes federal capital defense, complex white-collar crimes, large drug conspiracies, and sex crimes. He also has extensive familiarity with criminal tax matters involving the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) and state taxing authorities.
In addition to numerous awards recognizing his work as an attorney and mentor, Carver is a past president of the Missouri Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers and serves on the board of the Springfield Metropolitan Bar Association and its foundation.
Finnan joins Springfield Sports Commission
The Springfield Sports Commission, a nonprofit dedicated to promoting sports tourism in the area, announced it has appointed Alexandra Finnan as its new coordinator of sports strategies & events. Finnan, a recent graduate of the University of South Florida’s Vinik Sport and Entertainment Management Program, brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in orchestrating high-profile events to the Springfield region.
Finnan holds master's and bachelor's degrees related to sports management and marketing from USF, where was actively involved with the school’s athletic program. Her most recent experience was with the Tampa Bay Sports Commission, where she contributed to events including the record-breaking NCAA Women’s Division I Volleyball Championship.
Vital Farms appoints new 'chief supply chain officer'
Vital Farms announced the appointment of Joe Holland as chief supply chain officer starting Sept. 1.
Holland will manage Vital Farms’ diverse supply chain, including Springfield’s Egg Central Station (ECS), which processes millions of ethically produced eggs daily. ECS has been at the forefront of Vital Farms' sustainability efforts and recently achieved LEED Gold Certification. Mr. Holland will also oversee supply chain at the forthcoming Seymour, Indiana facility, which builds on ECS Springfield's success as a key hub in the company's national supply chain.
In the newly created CSCO role, Holland will lead several key teams at Vital Farms, including supply chain and logistics, production operations, food safety quality assurance, dairy operations, and integrated business planning. With more than 25 years of experience in supply chain and distribution, Holland has successfully cultivated high-performing operations teams in past positions at companies including Dean Foods, Cadbury Schweppes, Ventura Foods and Curaleaf Holdings, Inc.
Holland will assume many of the responsibilities previously held by Jason Dale, who has served as Vital Farms’ chief operating officer since 2019. Dale will remain in an advisory role with the company through the end of 2024.

Pair of Springfield firms win Missouri State Fair Arena project
Springfield-based firms Kinetic Design + Development and Nabholz Construction were awarded a contract from the Missouri State Fair to design and build an all-new arena on the historic Missouri State Fairgrounds in Sedalia to be named after Gov. Mike Parson. The Kinetic and Nabholz teams most recently finished the latest phase of work on Thunder Ridge Nature Arena in Ridgedale.
Work on the 150,000-square-foot arena broke ground Aug. 15, with construction planned to finish before the Missouri State Fair’s 2026 season. The new arena is designed to cater to experiences for traditional fairgoers like bull-riding and concerts and will serve the greater Sedalia community by providing year-round opportunities for vents, from livestock shows to conferences, trade shows and community gatherings, among other multi-purpose uses.
Springfield Community Gardens snags $210,000 award
Springfield Community Gardens has received general operating support from the Missouri Foundation for Health (MFH) in the amount of $210,000 over two years in recognition of its founding executive director, Maile Auterson, as a "Food Justice Visionary" for her stewardship of the organization's efforts to support more resilient local food systems with a regional network of small family farms, regenerative agriculture and a Food as Medicine model.
SCG’s efforts and vision for local agriculture and food access are highlighted and have been adopted in the city’s Comprehensive Master Plan, Forward SGF 2040. This plan has prioritized relocalizing the food economy as a significant objective. Missouri Foundation for Health’s food justice initiative aims to transform and strengthen local food systems.
