Biography

Mohanakrishnan Sathyamoorthy, M.D., FACC is the academic chair of Internal Medicine at the Burnett School of Medicine. Known as Dr. Mo to his patients, he is an invasive cardiologist in practice in Fort Worth with scientific expertise in thrombosis and the pharmacology of blood thinning therapeutics. Currently at Baylor Scott and White All Saints, he serves in a number of leadership capacities, including the Chief of Staff, Vice Chief of Staff, and the Chief of the Cardiovascular Division. In 2015, he was appointed as the first Medical Director of Cardiology for the newly formed Baylor Heart and Vascular Hospital Fort Worth. Dr. Sathyamoorthy serves his patients through a comprehensive cardiology practice, and maintains a longstanding collaboration with the Baylor Transplant Institute in the pre-transplant cardiac evaluation and post-transplant care of end stage liver, pancreas, and renal patients. Dr. Sathyamoorthy has been featured routinely as a guest cardiologist on numerous media outlets in the Dallas-Fort Worth region. He, his wife Heather, and their two young children are proud to make their home in Fort Worth, where they enjoy a very active lifestyle together, and support and enjoy the fine and performing arts.

Education

Dr. Sathyamoorthy earned his Bachelor of Science in Biomedical Engineering and Masters in Engineering from Johns Hopkins University, during which time he pursued research in finite element biomechanical modeling of the heart. Dr. Sathyamoorthy earned his M.D. with Distinction in Research from the SUNY Stony Brook School of Medicine, where he was honored at graduation with the Award for Outstanding Achievements in Research, and The Citizenship Award for Outstanding Contributions to the School of Medicine. During Medical School, he was selected as a NIH CRTP Research Scholar at the National Institutes of Health, and trained on campus for more than a year in an internationally renowned functional genomics program. Dr. Sathyamoorthy completed ABIM Research Pathway training as a physician-scientist in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Medicine and was named a Harrison Scholar at Vanderbilt University. He subsequently served as Chief Fellow, during which time he was instrumental in CV Fellowship reorganization and ACGME re-accreditation.

Research Interests

Dr. Sathyamoorthy joined the full-time Faculty at Vanderbilt University as a physician-scientist, pursuing mentored NIH Individual F32 NRSA funded laboratory work in the molecular manipulation of fibrinolytic proteins in a prominent thrombosis laboratory. Dr. Sathyamoorthy prepared and taught the molecular and clinical pharmacology coursework in fibrinolytic, anti-platelet, and anticoagulant therapeutics in the School of Medicine, during his full time Faulty tenure (2007-2009), and at the request of course directors, continued teaching this course as an adjunct Faculty (2009 to 2014). He was the submitting Co-PI at Vanderbilt for the COAG Trial, which was selected as one of twelve centers nationwide for the first NIH funded multi-center pharmacogenetics trial.

Professional Societies

Dr. Sathyamoorthy is a key advisor to the Baylor Transplant Selection Committee, advising this group on all cardiac matters related to recipient selection. He remains an active member of the Adjunct Faculty at Vanderbilt University, is published in the peer reviewed literature, and frequently gives invited lectures around the country and internationally in his areas of clinical and scientific expertise. He presented invited sessions at the 28th Annual Meeting of the Japanese Coronary Association in December 2014 in Tokyo, Japan and at the 44th Annual Meeting of the German Society for Thoracic and Cardiovascular Surgery in 2015. Dr. Sathyamoorthy completed a multi-year, extended term as President of the American Heart Association Tarrant County Division of the North Texas AHA Chapter, and remains on this board. He served on the Advisory Board of the Fort Worth Opera though 2016, and is a current Board of Trustee Member for the Fort Worth Academy.
